Our Action
Our approach can be explained via few questions and answers.
What is the current situation ?
Currently, there is no remedy against HIV.
The best we can do for people infected by HIV is a lifelong treatment with antiretroviral medecines which are very costly and toxic substances.
What is the long term objective?
The ultimate goal is to find out a mean capable of preventing the HIV virus from infecting the body. Many scientists think that this can done through a « preventive vaccine ». Unfortunately, the estbalishment of such a vaccine cannot be done but in a very long term, However, until the possible realization of a preventive vaccine, ten thousands of millions of people worldwide are suffering and dying because of HIV.
What is our approach ?
There is a very small fraction of people, although carriers of HIV, and despite the existence of infection, are not sick of AIDS. These people use their natural defenses to help their bodies combat the virus without any medical aid or drug use. Unfortunately, Nature did such a gift but to a tiny fraction of the world's population. We are working on a "therapeutic vaccine" which would give that superior immunity to each infected person.
What is the difference between a preventive vaccine and a therapeutic vaccine?
A therapeutic vaccine requires three injections: a first phase in two injections and a reminder later. It is therefore not necessary for a lifelong treatment as for antiretroviral drugs. In addition, it is non-toxic (without effects) and it will be a few tens of times less expensive than antiretroviral therapy. Naturally, a preventive vaccine is highly preferable, but a therapeutic vaccine is possible for deployment within a much shorter time period.
When will a therapeutic vaccine against HIV be available ?
We are very encouraged by our previous researches and have strong reasons to believe that a vaccine will be available within 5 years.
